How to use it
- Select the exact profile or server banner slot you want to update.
- Choose an original picture and adjust the crop for that canvas.
- For a server banner, keep the highlighted title strip free of busy details.
- Save the still image and check it in the matching Discord settings dialog.
Pick the correct Discord slot
Discord’s current Custom Profiles help lists 680 × 240 as the minimum for a user profile banner, while its separate per-server profile article still lists 600 × 240. Both describe image banners as a Nitro feature and allow files below 10 MB. The server banner is a different asset, with a recommended 960 × 540 canvas. These presets keep the three cases distinct.
Make the server title easy to read
For the server banner, Discord recommends leaving the top 48 pixels uncomplicated because the server title sits in that area. The guide highlights that strip. Use a quiet background there and place the main visual below it. A photograph or illustration with a clear focal point tends to survive the narrow channel-list context better than a dense promotional poster.
Check whether the banner slot is available
A user’s Nitro profile perks and a server’s boost perks are separate. Discord documents static server banners at Boost Level 2 and animated server banners at Level 3, with an exception for Partner servers. Before preparing artwork for someone else’s community, confirm which slot their settings currently expose. The image file itself cannot enable a missing account or server feature.
Crop for the subject instead of the background
Choose Fill when the artwork can be trimmed to the selected banner shape. Drag the image so the face, character or scene remains inside the frame, then adjust zoom if necessary. For a graphic whose edges contain important detail, Fit with padding preserves the whole source. A plain padding color often suits illustrated community artwork better than a blurred duplicate.
Understand what the download preserves
The resizer exports a still JPEG. If you choose an animated source that your browser opens, the export does not retain its motion. Use a dedicated animation workflow when the banner needs multiple frames. The guide labels and crop handles are also excluded from the download, leaving only the image and padding you selected in the preview.
Review the banner where members see it
A profile card and the channel list surround the image with different controls and text. Upload the saved file through the intended settings page and inspect that actual view. Keep a clean original to revise if the title or avatar obscures the artwork. Small changes in the source composition usually work better than trying to repair a cramped banner by increasing its pixel dimensions.
