Can I combine bold and italic?

You can combine markers around the same words, and the cheat sheet includes working examples. Start from a simple example and change its content carefully. Deeply nested combinations are harder to maintain, so use them only when they help the reader.

Why does a heading stay as plain text?

Check that the heading marker starts its line and that a space follows it. An extra character before the marker, a missing space or placement inside a code block can change how the line is interpreted.

Will these styles change my Discord username?

This editor prepares message Markdown. Profile names and usernames are different fields and do not generally interpret message markers. For decorative letters that travel as characters, use the separate Discord font tool and test the destination field.

What happens if I paste HTML here?

The preview treats typed HTML as text. It does not run scripts or turn arbitrary tags into page elements. Use Discord’s supported Markdown patterns when you want formatting, and preview the final result in the Discord composer.

How to use it

Write a message in the editor or replace the example with your own draft.
Select a phrase and choose Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Spoiler or Inline code.
Inspect the preview and copy the message source, including its formatting markers.
Paste into Discord as an ordinary message and check the final rendering before sending.

Markdown travels with the text

Discord formatting uses characters around the words you want to style. Double asterisks produce bold, asterisks produce italics, double underscores underline and pairs of tildes strike through. These markers are part of the copied text, so you can prepare a message in a plain editor. The tool’s buttons add the markers to the selected phrase rather than applying a font file.

Start with the structure of the message

For an announcement, settle the title, practical details and next action before decorating individual words. A short heading can separate sections; a list can make several steps easier to follow. Use emphasis where it helps someone find a date or instruction. If every phrase is bold, the reader has to work just as hard to find the important one.

Copy examples as building blocks

The cheat sheet gives you a small example of each supported pattern. Copy a numbered list when you need a sequence, a quote when you are responding to a particular line, or a masked link when the destination needs a readable label. Replace the sample words while keeping the surrounding punctuation. Check the result after each edit if you are learning the syntax.

Code and spoilers behave differently

Code keeps the enclosed text literal, which is useful for commands or showing someone the markers they should type. A spoiler uses a hidden treatment that readers deliberately reveal. Do not rely on the local preview as a privacy control: the original words remain in the message source. Check that the actual Discord message hides the intended part before sharing something sensitive to the conversation.

Keep the copied source and the preview distinct

The preview is a local interpretation of common Discord Markdown. It is useful for checking whether markers are paired, but spacing, nested formatting and link display can vary in Discord. Copy the message source using its copy button. Copying rendered words directly from the preview can lose the markers that make the formatting survive the next paste.

Review length after formatting

Formatting adds characters even when it makes no new words. A heavily styled announcement can therefore approach the message limit sooner than expected. The editor shows the raw source length against the standard target. If a draft is too long, simplify repeated emphasis and decorative lines, then review the wording. When you split a message, keep complete marker pairs in each part.
