Mailto link generator
Give visitors an email button that starts the conversation for them. Enter an address, add an optional subject and message, then copy the finished link into your website, contact page or email signature. The visitor gets an editable draft and decides when to send it.
Separate recipients with commas, semicolons or spaces.
Bcc addresses are visible in the link’s source. Keep private addresses out of public links.
The link opens an editable draft. Your visitor chooses whether to send it.

How to use it
- Enter the receiving email address. For a shared conversation, separate additional recipients with commas, semicolons or spaces. Display names such as Jane <jane@example.com> are accepted.
- Add CC or BCC only when the draft needs them. Write a short subject that will help you identify these messages in your inbox, such as Workshop enquiry.
- Fill in the message with useful prompts. For example, ask for a preferred date and the number of attendees, leaving blank lines where the visitor can add an answer.
- Copy the generated link into the URL field of your button. If you edit HTML directly, expand the HTML section, choose the visible button text and copy that version instead.
- Use the test link on both a phone and a computer. Check every recipient, the subject and the line breaks before putting the button on a public page.
A useful first draft
The best prefilled message saves a visitor from deciding how to begin. A photographer might suggest “I would like to ask about a session” and leave room for dates, location and the kind of photos needed. A newsletter writer might use a single prompt asking which issue the reader is replying to. Keep the requested information short enough that the draft feels easy to finish.
Avoid writing an entire sales conversation into the body. A long template can be awkward to edit on a phone, and different email apps handle long links differently. If you need file uploads, required answers, a booking calendar or a submitted confirmation screen, use a form for that part of the workflow. An email link works well when a personal reply is the intended next step.
Copy the right output
The plain output starts with mailto: and belongs in a website builder’s link or button destination field. The HTML output adds the surrounding anchor element and its visible text. Pasting HTML into a URL field will not create the intended button. Conversely, a plain mailto address placed as ordinary text in an HTML block may remain text until you make it a link.
Characters such as spaces, ampersands and line breaks have special representations inside the generated address. Leave that encoding intact when copying the result. This tool encodes the message and converts its line breaks for email drafts, while the HTML version also escapes characters needed by HTML. Edit the fields here and copy again when changing the message, rather than trying to adjust the encoded text by hand.
Recipients and public visibility
CC makes sense when someone else should receive the conversation alongside your main inbox. BCC can hide a recipient from the delivered message’s other recipients, but the BCC address is still present in this public link. Anyone inspecting or copying the link can read it. Choose a public contact address for a public button and leave private distribution lists out of its source.
Repeated addresses are kept once, using the first recipient field in which they appear. The generator checks address shape, not whether an inbox exists or whether it accepts mail. If a team owns the destination inbox, confirm that someone monitors it and knows which requests this button creates. A clear button label such as “Ask about a workshop” gives the visitor more context than a generic contact icon.
