A canvas for a vertical screen
This preset uses a 9:16 rectangle, with 1080 pixels across and 1920 down. It is a practical workspace for a full-height Story composition. If you begin with a square graphic, filling this rectangle removes a large part of the sides. Fitting it with padding preserves the entire square and creates room for a headline or stickers in Instagram.
Leave room for the interface
A Story is shown with account information, navigation and interaction controls. Their positions can vary with the device, the viewing context and the stickers attached to the Story. The guide on this page is a suggested central content area. It is deliberately a design aid rather than a promise that every surrounding pixel will be covered or visible.
Place a link sticker after exporting
The downloaded JPG contains the image you prepare here. Interactive links, polls, mentions and music are added inside Instagram. Leave a quiet part of the composition for them, then inspect the actual Story preview. A URL drawn into the photograph is just a picture of text; it does not become a tappable link when the image is resized.
Handle horizontal photographs
For a wide group shot, start with Fit with padding. A blurred copy fills the empty area using colors already present in the photograph. For a price list or event announcement, a solid background can keep the message calmer. Switch to Fill only when a closer crop still contains everyone or everything the Story needs to show.
Check text at reading size
A large desktop preview can hide a type size problem. Open the finished file on a phone and read it without zooming. If the words are difficult to scan, revise the original design with fewer lines or larger text, then resize it again. This tool changes the dimensions of the whole image; it cannot edit words already flattened into the picture.
Keep the source for your next update
Save the original design separately from the Story export. Repeatedly opening and resaving a JPEG can add visible artifacts around text and sharp edges. When a date, price or offer changes, update the original and create a fresh export. You can reuse the same 9:16 shape while changing the actual content, without stretching an old screenshot.
