How to use it
- Choose a static source image, preferably an original with transparent background.
- Adjust the square crop or select Fit with transparent padding.
- Save the 28 pixel version first and check whether its expression is clear.
- Save the 56 and 112 pixel versions, then select the matching files in Twitch.
One design, three actual sizes
Twitch’s static-emote manual workflow uses separate 112, 56 and 28 pixel square images. Its automatic workflow accepts one square PNG between 112 and 4096 pixels. This tool creates the three manual sizes from the same crop, so their framing stays consistent. Each save button downloads one file, making it clear which version you are selecting in the upload interface.
Judge the smallest version first
The 28 pixel emote is a demanding test of the design. A detailed portrait that looks appealing at 112 pixels can become an indistinct patch at the smallest size. Keep the expression or symbol simple, exaggerate important shapes in the original artwork and avoid fine lettering. Download the small version early and inspect it at actual size before spending time polishing the larger export.
Preserve transparency intentionally
Twitch asks for a transparent background for static emotes. If your source artwork already has an alpha channel, PNG output preserves it. Choose Fit with transparent padding when you need more room around the silhouette. This setting does not remove an existing photographic background. Use an image editor to create that cutout first, then return here to produce the final sizes.
Leave room for the outline
A face, hand or symbol touching the edge of the square can feel clipped when it sits among other emotes. Keep a small visual margin without shrinking the reaction so far that its expression is lost. Use the crop preview and zoom control to compare options. The same selected composition is reused for all three exports, so you do not need to recreate the position separately.
Check each saved file
Static emotes must stay within Twitch’s 1 MB file limit, and the tool reports the size after saving. Open each downloaded PNG and check its edges against light and dark backgrounds. A thin pale outline may disappear in a light chat theme, while a dark silhouette can merge with a dark one. Fix the original art when contrast fails instead of enlarging the finished small file.
Upload through the creator dashboard
Select the relevant emote slot in Twitch’s creator dashboard and use either its automatic or manual sizing workflow. For manual upload, choose the matching file for each size. Your account’s emote eligibility and content rules still apply. This page prepares image assets locally; it does not log into Twitch, assign an emote name or submit anything for review on your behalf.
