How to use it
- Load your channel artwork from the highest-quality version you have.
- Choose Fill or Fit and center the channel name inside the guide.
- Hide the guide to review the clean composition, then save the JPG.
- Upload in Studio and inspect the device previews before applying the change.
A large image with a smaller core
YouTube recommends a 2560 × 1440 banner and accepts a minimum 2048 × 1152 upload. At that minimum size, its documented text and logo safe area is 1235 × 338. The guide here scales that center area to the larger canvas. Treat it as an approximate working guide and confirm the actual crop in Studio before saving the channel update.
Keep the promise of the channel in the middle
Place the channel name or a brief topic description in the central area of your original design. Let the surrounding space carry atmosphere: a landscape, studio backdrop, illustration or color field. This makes the layout more resilient when the channel is viewed in different contexts. Important wording near the top of the full canvas may disappear in a short banner strip.
Adapt artwork without stretching it
A banner supplied for a different service may be much wider or shorter. Fill and crop keeps the picture proportional while trimming its edges. Fit with padding keeps all of it and fills the remaining space with a chosen background. If neither option creates a balanced result, return to the original design and rearrange the elements for this canvas.
Check the source at its working size
Start with an image large enough to cover the banner without extreme enlargement. A logo should be exported cleanly from its original design rather than captured from a website screenshot. Fine lettering and thin lines can soften when the image is resized and encoded. Check those areas at full size, then also review the banner at a small display size.
Keep the image file manageable
The banner preset checks the exported JPEG against YouTube’s 6 MB limit. Complex textures and photographic noise increase file weight, while calm backgrounds are easier to compress. The tool reports when it has reduced JPEG quality to fit. If the resulting text looks rough, simplify the design or re-export a cleaner source rather than starting again from the compressed download.
Review the live crop before committing
Use YouTube Studio’s channel customization controls to select your saved banner. Inspect every device preview provided there, adjusting the source if a name or logo is clipped. Keep a copy of the original composition for later changes to a schedule or tagline. Reopening the source makes it easier to update the message without moving all the other design elements.
