Can I change the font on Instagram itself?

No. Instagram has no font option for bios, names or captions — only Stories text has a few built-in fonts. Copying styled Unicode characters, like the ones on this page, is how people get a different-looking font into their profile.

Will everyone see my Instagram font?

On current iPhones and Android phones, yes: these are standard Unicode characters. Very old devices can show an empty box for a few of the rarer styles, so check your profile from a second phone if it matters.

Can I use a fancy font in my Instagram username?

No. Instagram usernames only accept letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Put the styled text in your Name field instead — it is the bold line at the top of your profile.

Do fancy fonts make my profile harder to find?

Styled letters are different characters from plain ones, so a name written only in a fancy font may not match when people search for you. Keep one plain version of your name somewhere in the profile.

Why do some fonts show up as boxes?

A box, sometimes with a question mark in it, means the viewer’s phone has no drawing for that character. The letter styles — bold, italic, script, gothic, outline — work on every current phone; frames and look-alike styles borrow symbols from rarer blocks, so check those on a second device before you rely on them.

Do these fonts work on TikTok and other apps?

Yes. They are Unicode text, so they paste into TikTok, X, Threads, YouTube, Discord and most messaging apps as well. Usernames and handles are the exception almost everywhere.

Why these work on Instagram

Instagram has no font setting. What you see here are not fonts but different Unicode characters that are drawn styled — the bold 𝐒 is a character of its own, not a formatted S. Because they are ordinary text, they survive being pasted into a bio, a name, a caption or a comment.

The same goes for Stories text and Reels captions, and for any other app you paste them into later.

The kinds of Instagram fonts

Cursive fonts (𝓢𝓽𝓲𝓬𝓴) are the usual pick for a name: they feel personal and still hold up at the small size of a profile. Bold script is easier to read than the thin script, especially in a bio.

Bold fonts (𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸) make a hook out of the first line of a caption. Aesthetic fonts wrap a letter style in a frame of symbols — ✧ sparkles ✧, ♡ hearts ♡, ˚₊‧꒰ა bows ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ — which is the look most aesthetic profiles use.

Gothic fonts (𝕾𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖐) suit dark, gaming and music profiles. Bubble and box fonts (Ⓢⓣⓘⓒⓚ, 🆂🆃🅸🅲🅺) are playful but wide, so keep them to a word or two. Small fonts (ˢᵗⁱᶜᵏ) are for asides.

Where to use them, and where not to

A styled word draws the eye, so spend it where you want attention: your name line, the first words of your bio, the call to action above your link. Keep the rest plain.

Screen readers spell these characters out one by one or read them as maths symbols, and search treats them as different letters. The words people find you by — your name, your job, your town — should stay in normal text.

How to change the font in your Instagram bio

Copy a style from this page, open your profile and tap Edit profile. Tap Bio or Name, paste, and save. On a computer, the same fields are under Edit profile on instagram.com. Everyone who opens your profile sees the new font — there is nothing for them to install.

Fonts in Stories and Reels

Stories have their own text styles behind the Aa button, and they only work inside a Story. The styles on this page work there too, and they also work in Reels captions and comments, where Instagram offers no fonts at all.

Your bio holds 150 characters

Styled letters take more room than they look: most are stored as two units of text, and some apps count them that way. Frames add their symbols on top. Leave a few characters spare under Instagram’s 150 rather than filling the bio to the last letter.
